On Saturday afternoon there was that wonderful smell of smoke, but we weren't doing any cooking. The lack of cooking shouldn't be a surprise whee dhop fronts on 2nd Ave between 38 and 39 St are: Two corner grocery stores, a pizza takeaway, a chicken takeaway, a chinese takeaway, a mexican takeaway, and a bar. The other side of the street has a pharmacy, a japanese restaurant, a non-specific restaurant, a coffee and sandwich shop - but I digress...
So anyway, the smoke. It was coming in from the hallway which was full of white smoke.
Just after we moved in a year ago, a similar thing happened only it was thick black smoke - coming from the compactor shute room (which is next door to our apartment). I suspect it was thick and black because someone opened the damn door.
This time is wasn't thick, though it got smoky in our apartment. This time no one opened the compactor shute room door.
The note left on our door today blamed it on someone tossing a lit cigarette into the shute and that it was the second time it had happened due to the same cause. And then raved on about cigarettes falling onto people's balconies.
